Surveys show that most Americans are interested in learning more about their roots and we have joined those who are searching for their family history. It wasn't planned...it just happened.

It started when Frank Seelig called John Fisher asking if he knew how they were related and suggesting a family gathering. John didn't know exactly how they were related. He needed help so he called a professional, noted Jewish genealogist Eileen Polakoff. Those first calls grew into a project to find out as much as possible about the family past and present. (John Fisher is a second cousin once removed to Frank Seelig.)

The excitement of finding a document signed by a great-grandfather was amazing. We had no idea such things existed or that we'd find records of the family in America in the 1850s and 1860s. It was more than documents, the research was bringing people alive again and telling us about their lives. After a couple of years of research the idea of a family reunion began to percolate. In October 2002, more than one hundred family members from the Weissbein, Heyman, Fisher and Hirsch branches gathered in Grass Valley, California, for three days.

After the reunion the family wanted to find a way to share this information and keep in touch with each other, so this family history website was created and launched to the family in September 2005. In January 2007 plans were begun to have a family reunion for the Feigenbaum side of the family. That reunion happened in August 2007 and brought more than eighty relatives to San Francisco.

This project began with the Fisher family of San Francisco. The family tree of Don and Doris Fisher of San Francisco includes all of their known ancestors, back six to eight generations, approximately to the year 1800. The tree also includes all known descendants of those ancestors to the present day. Important family surnames include Auerbach, Bamberger, Bush, Eising, Emanuel, Feigenbaum, Fisher, Gumbiner, Gunzburg, Heyman, Hirsch, Kahn, Levis, Meier, Naphtaly, Radetsky, Schmitt, Weissbein, and Wolf.
